The Fox Who Carried the Sun

2026 · stained glass, drawn by code

a village loses its sun. a small fox sets out with a lantern, crosses a river, climbs through a storm, finds the sun asleep in a nest, and carries it home on its back. the birds help lift it into the sky.

the window starts dark under the moon. each of the eight panes fills with light as its part of the story arrives, and at the end dawn comes through all of them at once.

how it works

  • every pane is a drawing in code: shapes get cut into shards, lead runs along each edge, and faces and fur are painted on top
  • the glass has its own texture, so each piece has a tint, streaks, bubbles and a darker rim
  • lighting only decides how much light passes through each piece, the way real glass works
  • the music is code too: a bell and a choir chord for each pane, thunder timed to the lightning, and the harmony walks from minor to major as the sun comes back
  • built with claude code: i described what i wanted, then we went back and forth on the frames until the glass, the story and the score all landed
